Joe Paterno is as much symbolic to Penn State, as Penn State is to football.
A legend will return to Happy Valley in 2011. Yes the rumors, as rumors tend to go, were wrong. Rumors as bogus as Joe Pa being hospitalized while with the Nittany Lions in Tampa, FL for their bowl game against the Florida Gators, being just one of many typical rumors about the Lions' 84 year-old head coach.
For Paterno, 2011 is the final year of his current contract, one that was signed three years ago to the dismay of some fans. Personally I like the "old-timer," who still manages to get around quite well. While meeting with Penn State President Graham Spanier and Bill Mahon, spokesman for Spanier, the three had an "excellent discussion" about the upcoming 2011 season.
Mahon indicated that discussion about Paterno's position after the 2011 season, will take place during the next review in 2012.
After dodging potential mass turmoil this offseason, amid a quarterback quandary and the potential for losing members of its coaching staff to other programs, the Penn State football program looks to be on the right track to rebound in Big 10 conference play next season, with their legendary coach at the helm for his 45th season as Penn State's head coach.
